jazzed up tuna melts...and a winner!!

IMG_0493
Somehow or another I stumbled upon this amazing tuna melt recipe over at Mommie Cooks. I wasn't completely sure about it at first because Julie mixed the tuna with sour cream and picante sauce but then I got to thinking about how much I adore fish tacos so I figured it had to be good. Ya know what? These Tuna Mexi Melts are beyond good. I think even that cereal lovin' Tony the Tiger would give a "They're Grrrrrrreat!" shout out!

I have to share something with you though. I was all excited to serve these to my husband. We both love Mexican food so I thought for sure he would be all over these as well. He. Wasn't. I got all in a huff about it, too. I'm not really sure why exactly. I mean, it's not even my recipe. Why did it even matter? I liked it. The photos came out looking pretty nice. Sometimes, I take my cooking way too seriously! He sensed my frustration (not that I was subtle) and finished his meal in silence.

Maybe this is chick food. Is this chick food? Poor man, having to endure my salads, soups and now Tuna Mexi Melts. He did mention that he wanted steak earlier today. I laughed and told him that steak is too darn expensive. I'm not really a beef girl, you see. But, since he is a beef boy and such a good sport, maybe I'll grill him up a nice filet over the weekend....with a loaded baker on the side.

Has anyone one else ever reacted this way? No? Okay. Just checking. ;D

Hop on over to Mommie Cooks for this fantastic recipe!

They don't sound like chick food... but I do understand your frustration. On a few occasions Tommy didn't absolutely LOVE what I had cooked I was surprise to see how pissed I was! A couple of times I even muttered "why don't YOU cook something then!" I'm a brat like that =)

I get like that too. I even get like that when we're out at a restaurant, and I think a dish is amazing, and my boyfriend doesn't agree... or worse... he won't even try it. He doesn't understand why I get offended when it's not my food or not my recipe. Believe me I've been there!

These tuna melts look gorgeous. I feel like they'd make a great party appetizer.

I wish I liked fish because this looks GOOD!! It looks so good you could convince me to take a bite :)

I'm like Kika. When I cook something and Matthew's not a fan, I tend to take it personally. Especially if it is something I have gone to a lot of trouble to make. These tuna melts look delicious to me!

This looks yummy to me. But, I do think The Trout would think it is not "dinner". Perhaps an appetizer? ha ha I let him do the planning and a lot of the cooking so there is always peace, you know? I am happy eating anything. Congrats to Barbara. It looks like a fantastic prize.

It looks GREAT to me too!
I wonder how your hubby react when he was told that the steak was too pricey....;-))

It sounds like your husband and my father are related. You just never can tell what men will do next. They are thoroughly unpredictable.

I personally think these look excellent. Way better than your average tuna melt. Then again, I'm a chick. So what do I know :P

Oh Kim, I have to deal with someone who hates things before he's even tasted them too (though he's not always like that). Maybe it's a mood thing or something. I think these sound wonderful though. I would have eaten them happily...!
Oh, and congratulations to Barbara. Yeah!

Kim, these really look delicious. They'd also be wonderful for a party. I hope you are having a great day. Blessings...Mary

I don't think my husband would be too crazy about these either. Definitely a girl's day thing, sounds delish to me :)

Maybe it is a chick dish....I wouldn't have thought so, but if you have a steak-loving hubby, tuna melts are NOT going to go over big. We food bloggers DO tend to impose food on our loved ones, don't we?

I'm really excited about winning and have emailed you my address. Thanks, Kim!!!

Looks and sounds fantastic to me...and oh yes, I can get a bit touchy about my cooking...but oh well.

I had to laugh...I get a little sensitive about my cooking too. The other day my husband grabbed for the salt after I put a *perfectly* seasoned meal in front of him and I nearly bit his head off.

I think that these look and sound spectacular!

Ooh, now I want one!

I love your very frank post on your tuna melts, I have to admit I do get a bit piss off too when one of my boys refuses to eat my bakings.

Kim,
Wonderful post...and I think that I would have loved these tuna melts...so try not to feel bad! I too can become very sensitive about my cooking. Ryan knows to tread carefully when I prepare something new. But tuna can be a hard sell for some people, especially if it is different from how they normally eat it. Thanks for sharing this though...because it looks great to me!

There are tons of steak and potato guys out there but this is manly food too!

These look GREAT! I love tuna melts, and Mexican flavors. I am very sensitive too...but I lean more on the teary side if my cooking is underappreciated. Luckily I have gotten pretty good at knowing what will go over well!

What delicious morsels, I simply adore tuna melts!
Mr P is a picky bunny and sometimes turns the food I make him away. It hurts my feelings a teeny bit sometimes, but I know its good that he tells me the truth so that way I dont waste my time and effort making it again. Also, I know when he says he likes something, that he really means it.

These tuna melts sound delicious with just the right amount of heat; I can totally relate to your feelings, after going through all this effort; just remember men are like children and worse and he wants to be catered too; so make him a ribeye tomorrow and all will be forgotten.

They do sound yummy! I can understand your frustrations. My husband can be very picky and I often find myself in similar situations. I'm happy that you enjoyed them so much though. It sounds like it would make a wonderful lunch!

I often react the same way. I don't think it's going to bother me if my hubs doesn't like something that I think is great, but it does bug me. I don't think tuna melts are chick food, anythings better with gooey, melty cheese!

What a great way to jazz up a tuna melt! It's not chick food because my Dad loves tuna. Seriously, he eats it almost every day. But he loves a good steak too and burgers...
