This Christmas season I'm making an effort to bake up some new recipes. I earmarked this recipe from a BHG cookbook of mine ages ago. They looked so pretty and I knew the moment I saw them that one day I'd give them a try. Finally, I took the time and I'm so glad I did. This will be a holiday recipe I make from now on.
They're flaky, buttery, and crispy all at the same time. The pecans are perfect in here and the powdered sugar adds the perfect touch of sweetness.
So great with a nice piping hot cuppa joe!
Frosty Snowball Cookies
better homes and gardens annual recipes 1998
1 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1 Tbsp water
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup chopped pecans
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2/3 cup sifted powdered sugar
Green and pink colored sugar
In a large mixing bowl beat the butter with an electric mixer at medium speed for 30 minutes. Add the sugar. Beat until combined, scraping bowl as needed. Beat in water and vanilla until combined. Beat in as much flour as possible with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour by hand. Stir in pecans.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place one inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake in a 325 degree oven about 20 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned. Transfer to cooling rack and cool completely.
In each of two small bowls combine 1/3 cup of powdered sugar and colored sugars (one color in each bowl). Gently roll and shake each cookie in desired powdered sugar mixture. Makes about 2 dozen.
These look so delish!! I will have to add this to my list of baking ideas for next year's holiday season :)
Oh girl, I should have put in an order for baked goods three days ago, since it just is not happening, and all these blog cookies are sending me whirling. I will confess I have lost my appetite. Yes, what a way to lose weight.
Happy Holidays to you!
We hope your Christmas is filled with joy, laughter and many kitchen successes in the New Year.
They look so soft and decadent! I love the pic with your thumb all covered in sugar!
Those do look awesome with a cup of coffee. Probably the closest thing to snow we'll have over here!
And my fav part of all... the sugar dusted finger :)
I've seen snowball cookies but never with that adorable colored sugar on them - what a great idea! That picture makes me want to take a big bite out of it. Have a great day ~ ♥
These look quite delicious! I will be bookmarking them for after the new year. Why should such cute cookies be relegated to Christmas time only?
Those cookies look beautiful and so festive! Love it. Wishing you and family a very Merry Christmas.
Such a simple yet delicious cookie!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! :)
so many cookies... so little time left. Love these, but they are going in to my next year file
Merry Christmas to you
Yummy cookies. I think I have all the ingredients needed for this. I may have to squeeze this in among all the other dishes I'm making for Chistmas.
Oh just saw on your comment that you are using that gorgeous photo!
Oh what a fun idea! You always come up with the best and yummiest recipes!
I just found a recipe similar to that in my old cookbook from when I was a kid. Yours look delicious of course!
Whadya know, I came here in search of your fabulous sugar cookie recipe to make cookies for Santa tonight with Monsoon, and these delicious ladies popped up right away. Monsoon is insisting that we make these instead! Since they're simpler, I don't mind at all. ;) They look delicious... maybe Santa won't get any after all.
Mmmmmm, love those cookies. I make them every year for Xmas. I will have to try the colored sugar this year.
I love these cookies, they just melt in your mouth.
Merry Christmas, Kim!
This is the one Christmas cookie recipe that my family insists on! Very pretty and they keep well for a long time without any loss of quality. Great cookies for the holidays.
Kim, just reading the recipe had my mouth watering. I haven't had a snowball cookie in ages, and now I'm missing them. Your pix make these look delectable. I could not say no to these!
Bet everyone had a great time devouring these and the other treats.
My mom makes these every year -- they're soo good! We've never decorated them with colored sugar though... that's such a cute idea!
