Frosty snowball cookies

This Christmas season I'm making an effort to bake up some new recipes. I earmarked this recipe from a BHG cookbook of mine ages ago. They looked so pretty and I knew the moment I saw them that one day I'd give them a try. Finally, I took the time and I'm so glad I did. This will be a holiday recipe I make from now on.

These are so simple and so yummy!

They're flaky, buttery, and crispy all at the same time. The pecans are perfect in here and the powdered sugar adds the perfect touch of sweetness.

So great with a nice piping hot cuppa joe!

Frosty Snowball Cookies
better homes and gardens annual recipes 1998

1 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1 Tbsp water
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup chopped pecans
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2/3 cup sifted powdered sugar
Green and pink colored sugar
In a large mixing bowl beat the butter with an electric mixer at medium speed for 30 minutes. Add the sugar. Beat until combined, scraping bowl as needed. Beat in water and vanilla until combined. Beat in as much flour as possible with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour by hand. Stir in pecans.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place one inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake in a 325 degree oven about 20 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned. Transfer to cooling rack and cool completely.
In each of two small bowls combine 1/3 cup of powdered sugar and colored sugars (one color in each bowl). Gently roll and shake each cookie in desired powdered sugar mixture. Makes about 2 dozen.
Oh girl, I should have put in an order for baked goods three days ago, since it just is not happening, and all these blog cookies are sending me whirling. I will confess I have lost my appetite. Yes, what a way to lose weight.
Happy Holidays to you!
Those do look awesome with a cup of coffee. Probably the closest thing to snow we'll have over here!
And my fav part of all... the sugar dusted finger :)
I've seen snowball cookies but never with that adorable colored sugar on them - what a great idea! That picture makes me want to take a big bite out of it. Have a great day ~ ♥
These look quite delicious! I will be bookmarking them for after the new year. Why should such cute cookies be relegated to Christmas time only?
Yummy cookies. I think I have all the ingredients needed for this. I may have to squeeze this in among all the other dishes I'm making for Chistmas.
Whadya know, I came here in search of your fabulous sugar cookie recipe to make cookies for Santa tonight with Monsoon, and these delicious ladies popped up right away. Monsoon is insisting that we make these instead! Since they're simpler, I don't mind at all. ;) They look delicious... maybe Santa won't get any after all.
