chocolate gravy?

This is the time of year for a bit of indulgence. It's time for rich and creamy. It's time to cook up a little chocolate gravy over biscuits for breakfast!

One of my fondest memories from childhood is sitting down to a plate of my Grandma Lorene's chocolate gravy over biscuits. My grandma is from down south and down south chocolate gravy is (or was) a big deal.

Unfortunately, I don't have my grandma's recipe so I did a little online surfing and found that Paula Deen has a nice one.

Another way to serve chocolate gravy is in a bowl topped off with either Ritz or Saltine crackers.

This stuff is so rich, creamy, buttery, and chocolaty!

A small amount will do ya!

Doesn't it look scrumptious?! Have a bite!

Chocolate Gravy
adapted recipe from Paula Deen

1/3 stick of butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 tbsp flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup 1/2 and 1/2
1 cup milk

Heat butter in a cast iron skillet over low heat. In a small bowl combine sugar, flour and cocoa powder. Add to melted butter. Stir to combine. Slowly add the 1/2 and 1/2 and whisk to remove any lumps. Whisk in milk, stirring constantly until mixture is thickened to gravy consistency. Serve immediately over warm biscuits or topped with crackers.

If you haven't had chocolate gravy, I highly recommend you try it at least once in your life. There's nothing quite like it!

I also wanted to show you this cute photo of my kids from this morning. My daughter is making my son's hair fancy....or something like that. ;0)

Hope you're having a nice weekend!

My mom used to make us biscuits and chocolate syrup for breakfast. (Mom made or own or used Hershery's in the can) People always think we are crazy when we talk about it. I make for my children every now and then. My husband doesn't care for it. If we had no biscuits we used toast. It has been a while since we had any.
