Thoughts for Good Friday

An old Sunday School song popped into my head today and I sang it to my kids. It goes like this: "One, two, three, the Devil's after me. Four, five six, he's always throwing sticks. Seven, eight, nine, he misses every time. Singing glory, hallelujah, Amen". My daughter's response was, "Uh, Wow!". Well, this got me thinking....

I went to a very Pentecostal church during the 70's. If you are my age maybe you recall finding tracts in bathroom stalls around town with pictures of Satan and demons and fire! It scared the crud out of me! I was forced to believe in Jesus out of fear or face an eternity in hell. It was a time of Tel-Evangelists like Jimmy Swaggart. The 70's were all about scaring people into getting "saved".

As I got older I learned about the the softer side of Jesus. He loves us, cares about our lives, weeps for us when we suffer loss or endure a tragedy in this life. He just wants to be our friend and spend as much time with us as we will let him.

He died that none would perish! "For God so Loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believed in him would not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16. How Awesome!!
