mixed berry galette with lemon whipped cream

Sometimes I go a little crazy and buy more berries than I can possibly use up before they spoil. Then I end up in a mad rush to find the right recipe to put them into. The other day at our local Costco I spotted some lovely Northwest blueberries for a fantastic price! I just couldn't pass them up. On Saturday I picked up 2 pints of strawberries and a pint of raspberries at farmers market. What was I thinking? I just can't resist those vibrant, plump, sweet, juicy beauties!

After careful consideration, I decided to make my first ever Galette. I found a recipe I liked over at Scootabaker. Fun blog! I sprinkled raw cane sugar over the top instead of regular granulated sugar but other than that, I followed the recipe. Oh, except I switched out the blackberries for raspberries.

I went with an almond crust from Simply Recipes. I just love the taste and texture that the almond flour brings. If you haven't tried almond flour, you should. You'll love it! Bob's Red Mill has it and so does Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's seems to have the best price.

So, here it is. I was a bit sad because I had some leakage issues. Maybe I rolled my crust too thin?? And, no. That is not ricotta on top of my galette slice. I over-whipped my cream. Darn!

I substituted agave for the confectioners sugar in my lemon whipped cream.

Oh well, so it's not the most beautiful galette on earth, it still tasted completely scrumptious.

I'll be trying to perfect this one for sure!

I have the same "problem" with berries at the market too... they just call my name! I've been enjoying a lot of them very simply with a little Greek yogurt and honey. I imagine that galette is delicious with all those fresh berries!

I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as having too many berries because you can always throw them into scrumptious desserts like this! I love the looks of that crust! Heavenly.

I choose not to photograph my food because it NEVER looks very beautiful. But it always tastes FANTASTIC! Thank you for posting this today because I, like you, have blueberries and strawberries that are wasting away in my fridge. I made a fruit pizza that looked like the American flag...and then I have leftovers. I think this would be a perfect dessert for as soon as I find some almond flour. I think our closest Trader Joe's is in Atlanta and that makes me very, very sad. :(

Why does your food always look so much better than I can COOK IT! Mine would be a mess.

ps I had a small container of strawberries go fuzzy yesterday. All it took was one day... sigh.

I was planning to have some fresh fruit w. cream tonight and I think I'll try the lemon-flavor. Sounds wonderful, as always!

LOL! I buy berries as if they're going out of style too, especially when they're on sale.

You asked me about the pasta with bacon and breadcrumbs and I think adding tomatoes would make the recipe even better. The original recipe didn't call for them, but I think it would improve the dish. I'm guessing either fresh or canned would work well. Maybe if you tossed the tomatoes with the pasta and then tossed the pasta with the bacon and breadcrumbs? Also, we really love garlic at our house and thought the recipe could've used a little more garlic. If your family loves garlic then you might want to add more than the recipe calls for. The turkey bacon sounds like a great idea. You probably won't end up with all that much grease, which is a good thing. I used regular bacon and ended up draining off a lot of it. I hope you enjoy it!!

Overwhipped cream is still very tasty! I think your galette looks gorgeous! I have some berries in the fridge, and I keep thinking of making something like this or some sort of pie or tart.

Kim, I'm sure your dessert did indeed taste great. Our execution cannot always be perfect. We are all a little too hard on ouselves.

Flavourful wishes,
