Outta This World Cookie Bars

It's been fairly cool this week so I've been able to spend some quality time with my oven. She let me know how happy she was to be baking once again. She said she hates just sitting around with nothing to do, it makes her feel useless and unimportant. I felt really bad for her. I had no idea it was affecting her this much. I did let her know that the temperatures would once again be climbing into the upper 90's in the next few days but not to lose hope and to keep her chin up because fall is on it's way. I will need her more than ever for pies, casseroles, bread, and let's not forget about turkey dinner. I can tell she's feeling better about things and I'm glad we were able to have this heart to heart. ;0)

I rarely make cookies, let alone cookie bars, but I had some leftover hazelnuts from my fruit salad, some chocolate chips from something or other, and I really wanted to try Nutella in my bars. I came up with these beauties!

Here is the yummy recipe:

1 stick of butter, softened
1 cup tightly packed dark brown sugar
1 large egg
1 cup all purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts
6 tsp Nutella

Cut butter into brown sugar. Beat in the egg.

Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, chocolate chips and hazelnuts. Stir to combine.

Spread into an 11 x 7 greased and floured cake pan.

Place six tsp of Nutella evenly over top of cookie dough and use a toothpick or fork to swirl like so.

Place into a 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes until done.

Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.

It was so hard to eat just one (and a half) of these.

They were totally OuTtA tHiS wOrLd!

Oh yeah, don't forget to show your oven a little love too! :0)

These look so nice and gooey. I have had nutella but never thought to use it in a cookie. Doggybloggy is right, it has been so hot and humid here. The thought of putting my oven on, makes me :<

I made bar cookies this past week too and they were gone in an instant. They were rather plain compared to yours. Nutella bars sound super. I'll have to try them. No sense letting my oven feel neglected or anything!

I love Nutella! My husband eats Nutella straight out of the jar so I think he would like these too (oddly enough considering his huge sweet tooth, he doesn't like many cookies, but I think he'd love these!). They look incredibly delicious!

Yum, I agree, they do look out of this world. Love Nutella and hazelnuts. We're going camping next week. This will be a perfect sweet to take along.

Nutella is one of my favorite things and this sounds great. When we were in Italy and stopped on the highway for some quick food they had GIANT jars of Nutella. I could of kicked myself for leaving my camera on the tour bus because they were the size of handbags:)
