snack mix it up baby!

I love snack mix but I rarely buy it because it's so darn expensive!

A while back I spotted homemade snack mix ideas at one of the blog's I follow. I swear it was over at Linda's but for the life of me I can't find that post now! (BTW, Linda is having a great giveaway through October 9th. Check it out! )

I perused the bulk aisle to find some of the ingredients for this mix. I was able to pick up the mixed nuts and chocolate, peanut butter, and vanilla chips in bulk. I found a bag of these buttery pretzel balls and I had a box of Cinnamon Chex at home already.

I gently tossed all of the ingredients together and placed it in a jar with a tight fitting lid to keep it fresh. I've been throwing it into my kids lunches and they just love it!

I can't wait to whip up another batch soon! I think I'll add some dried fruit and seeds next time!

Have you ever made your own snack mix? What did you use?

Definitely a healthy snack mix. I love snacking on snack mixes in the afternoon. The great thing about them is that you can mix it up any way you want.

I wanted to make my own snack mix but kinda forgot about it. Now, you made me remember..

Yum! This looks delicious... best thing about making your own is you don't have to pick through and throw out things you don't like... I hate having to do that with the pre-made kind!

So basically you're saying your kids are the pride of the school lunch box group. I mean I'd totally peer over my pb&j to see 'hey what's he got over there?'

Yumm.. does this look good. Excellent point that we only put in those goodies that we like and omit the rest! Love dried apple chips!!

Snack mix is expensive, and making it at home is a great idea! Plus you can use just the ingredients that you like.

I have never made my own snack mix. Your snack mix looks great. I can see why your kids are enjoying it so much in their lunch boxes.

My mom always made a simple "trail" mix, she called it. It was just equal portions of peanuts, raisins, and chocolate chips. To this day, I just love it. Simple...yet the perfect mix of sweet, salty, and texture. YUM!

Can't remember if I already told you - but, love the new header!!!

You know - I tend to only make these over the holidays - maybe because so many of the ingredients are on sale. Yours looks just wonderful - and the fun is - you can just put it what you and your family loves!

Looks soooo yummy. I am loving your good blog! I wish our grocery store had a bulk isle! It would be perfect for making snack mix instead of buying it.

You know this reminds me that I used to make my own trail mix all the time. Pepitas, shelled sunflower seeds, almonds, dried cranberries and raisins. When I could find them I'd throw in dried blueberries. YUM!

In the winter I make my own Chex mix, basically following the recipe, but with little melba toasts & I make extra "sauce" cause I like it bold.

Hey... bring some to the Pumpkin Patch so I can enjoy! Good job!

I'll always make up my own snack mix cause my son has nut allergies. A lot of the pre-mixed snacks include nuts.

that is a sweet snackmix!
I've made a snack mix before, but it wasn't for me, it was for another person as a gift. I used nuts, seeds, dried fruits, yogurt-covered pretzels, and cereal!

I must admit... the first thing I did when I got to your blog is scroll through all of the pictures... omg, YUM! Then I promptly clicked the follow button.

I've never made my own snack mix, but I have totally scooped some snack mix from a bulk bin into a bag and thusly created a bag of snack mix to my exact weight specification. Does that count?

I make mine with peanuts, mini marshmallows, craisins, and sunflower seeds. Sometimes I throw in some m&m minis, too.
